The Spirit of Rebellion, Morgante, is A01 and A02 of the Archangels, being a white and black figure vaguely resembling a woman. She is the first Archangel fought against in the game, and is the main quest giver of the "Land of Confusion" quest line. She can later be fought in the post game, unlocking unlimited rematches with the Archangels.
Ingame Bio
A01
A wounded Archangel who was once a great power. Morgante's voice carries a force that can tear the fabric of reality itself, but this power is weakened in this state.
Her body had been shattered - it is hard to imagine what kind of strength could have done such a thing.
A02
Morgante once joined Aleph in his ventures across many worlds, appearing in many myths and legends as as witch or goddess of great power. She resided in Night's Bridge Station, which holds the only "gateway" to leave New Wirral. She hid this station in the words of a song.
The incarnation of rebellion, Morgante is one of the oldest "Archangel" beings in the connected cosmos. Rebellion is a polar opposite force to conquest - it is inevitable that she and Aleph would eventually become immortal enemies.
History
First encountered in a wounded state within Harbourtown Station, she initially mistakes the protagonist and Kayleigh for Mordread, telling them she has lost against Aleph. When the player try to help her against Kayleigh's warnings, she realizes they're human and attacks. In the process of fighting back against the Broken Spirit, the player and Kayleigh fuse and manage to defeat her in her weakened state.
Morgante realizes the player's wish to go home and agrees to help in exchange for them carrying her essence and vanquishing enough Archangels to regain her power. When you are banished by Aleph to a Dead World half way though the game and rescued by Ms. Amber, a parchment reveals that Morgante, the Lodge, and Aleph, were all apart of the same team before splitting up. Eventually, her song leads the player to the entrance of Night's Bridge Station, the only way off New Wirral.
After reaching Night's Bridge Station, it is revealed that Aleph killed Mordread, her son, and has been fighting Aleph to force him to stay on New Wirral due to their respective natures as beings of rebellion and conquest, until Aleph won out. After Aleph becomes Aleph Null and destroys your cassette, Morgante speaks up and helps them realize the true power of fusion, merging with everyone present and creating the Morgante Gestalt to destroy the Archangel fusion. Afterwards, Morgante separates from the player character and leaves, their roles finished.
In the post-game, the played can encounter Morgante again by returning to Harbourtown Station, only for her to turn on them and use them as a "sacrifice" due to her nature as the incarnation of rebellion.[1] After being defeated, she uses her death to complete her ritual, thus allowing you to fight against the other Archangels again.[2]
The "Here Comes The Sun" quest ends with the Mer-Line revealing that she and Aleph were more than just comrades; they were lovers, with Mordread being proof of their relationship. However, their respective natures lead them to fight one another, and to the current scenario.[3]
Habitats
Can be located and fought in Harbourtown Station.

Trivia
Name Origin
Morgante's name and concept are likely inspired by Morgan le Fay (also known as Fata Morgana), a witch in Arthurian legend.[4][5] Different works of Arthurian legend have varying portrayals of her, often as an adversarial figure to King Arthur. In many works, she is often the final person entrusted with the dead or dying King Arthur.[4][6]
Other
- Her initial wounded form (A01) is called "Oldgante" internally in the game's code.
