Barkley is a Partner character featured in Cassette Beasts. He is the only non-human partner in the game.

His signature monster tape is Pombomb.

Description

Barkley is a good-tempered Pomeranian who is capable of using cassette tapes to transform into monster forms.

History

Barkley was transported to New Wirral along with his owner while they were on a walk.

At some point after this, his owner was killed by an Averevoir which he seeks aid in getting his revenge on.

Barkley can be found in northeast Cherry Meadow, trying to climb the cliffs to north. If the player has the Pumpkin Vine Ball ability, Barkley will join the player as a partner, and his quest Come Back And Stay will begin.

Completing Barkley's quest requires ascending the cliffs using the Pumpkin Vine Ball ability and reaching Mt. Wirral. After entering a specific cave, the player and Barkley will fight the Averevoir that killed Barkley's owner.

In the ending of the game's main story, instead of returning to his own world, Barkley chooses to follow the player to their world.

Trivia

• As Barkley is the only non-human partner in the game, he is the only partner who cannot be romanced.
• Barkley is the only partner that does not use wings with the Mothwing Glide ability in the overworld, and instead glides using a balloon.
• Barkley always starts with an Ice-type bootleg Pombomb tape. This has resulted in the Frosty Bootleg achievement on Steam being the most commonly unlocked Bootleg achievement.
  • In customized games with "Randomise Monsters" enabled, Barkley's starting tape will still always be an Ice-type bootleg.
• Barkley's tombstone in Aldgrave Tomb Station lists his birth year as 14140 AD. However, as Eugene is the only partner confirmed to come from a future earth in Cassette Beasts The Art Book, and Barkley's tombstone also lists his year of "death" as "whatever this year is in dog years", it is likely that Barkley's stated birth year is also in dog years.
