Weather is a phenomenon that can be observed both in the overworld and in battle.

Weathers

There are 19 unique types of weather in the game, though some are more intense versions of other weathers. Most weathers have an associated elemental type which is currently only used by Butterfly Effect. Some weathers can naturally occur in certain locations.

Weather Name Elemental Type Locations
Default (clear) Typeless Default weather for locations with no set natural weather; also can naturally occur along with other weathers in The Marshes, West Mire Sea, and Brightside Pier
Autumn Leaf Wind Plant Autumn Hill, Mourningtown, The Deadlands
Strong Autumn Leaf Wind Plant Autumn Hill, The Deadlands
Cherry Blossom Wind Plant Cherry Meadow
Strong Cherry Blossom Wind Plant Cherry Meadow
Cloudy Water The Marshes, Lost Hearts Graveyard, West Mire Sea, Brightside Pier
Fog Water Autumn Hill Sea island, Cast Iron Shore, The Deadlands, Eastham Woods, Mt. Wirral summit, Brightside Pier
Forest Leaf Wind Plant Eastham Woods
Strong Forest Leaf Wind Plant Eastham Woods

Mechanics

The weather can change on its own every three in-game hours, or every 125 seconds, when in a location where the time of day can advance (such as outdoors and outside of battle). When doing so, it will choose a random type of weather that's natural to a given location; this is hard-coded per location. For example, Cherry Meadow (excluding the nearby lake) naturally only has cherry blossom and cherry blossom wind as its possible weathers. If the location has no associated natural weather, such as some parts of Harbourtown Beach, the weather will fallback to clear, but it will not update visually. Going into battle while in this area will correctly give clear weather.

Weather transitions do not change visuals instantaneously. For example it is possible to be in a location whose current weather is snow, and then fast travel to a different location that doesn't have snow in its natural weather; this results in snow appearing in the new location for a brief moment while changing to a new weather.

The weather can also be altered through other means. For example, most types of Rogue Fusions cause heavy rain within its vicinity, while Flood Fusions cause cloudy weather for lava floods, and heavy rain for poison and water floods.

If the weather is changed during battle, this will persist after battle in the given area.

Battle Effects

Battles will start with the location's current weather effect. Because time does not advance while in battle, the weather cannot naturally change on its own. Certain moves alter the weather in battle when used, and even affect the overworld weather after battle. If the battle takes place indoors, the weather is not visible in battle, but it still affects moves such as Butterfly Effect.

The following moves change the weather when used:

Snowed In and Fog, while being weather-themed status effects, do not have direct interaction with the weather.
