Each monster and move has an elemental type that determines its strengths, weaknesses, and abilities.
In addition, moves can be Typeless. A typeless attack takes on the type of the monster using it. In combat, untransformed humans are also typeless, and are unaffected by the type chart below.

In this table, the row is the attacking type, and the column is the defending type.
