Barkley is a Partner character featured in Cassette Beasts. He is the only non-human partner in the game.

His signature monster tape is Pombomb.

Description

Barkley is a good-tempered Pomeranian. He was transported to New Wirral along with his owner while they were on a walk.

At some point after this, his owner was killed by an Averevoir which he seeks aid in getting his revenge on.

Quest

Barkley can be found in northeast Cherry Meadow, trying to climb the cliffs to north.

To obtain Barkley as a partner, learn Pumpkin Vine Ball by fighting Jumpkin in Piper Fields. If you know it, he'll join your team as a partner.

Completing his quest requires ascending the cliffs using the ball and reaching Mt. Wirral. After entering a specific cave you will fight the Averevoir that killed Barkley's owner.

You can attempt to record the Averevoir if you unfuse with Barkley during the fight. Recording it will grant you the Averevoir Flight ability. Regardless of whether you recorded it or not, Averevoir will begin appearing on the world map as static encounters (and can be recorded to obtain the ability).

Trivia

• Barkley is the only partner that does not use wings with the Mothwing Glide ability in the overworld, and instead glides using a balloon.
• Barkley always starts with an Ice-type bootleg Pombomb tape. This has resulted in the Frosty Bootleg achievement on Steam being the most common Bootleg achievement.
  • In customized games with 'Randomise Monsters' enabled, Barkley's starting tape will still always be an Ice-type bootleg.
