Header art for Cassette Beasts Multiplayer

Multiplayer is an optional game mode of Cassette Beasts in which up to 8 players can join the same world. Multiplayer was launched as a free update on May 20, 2024 on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

Pre-Release

Multiplayer was first announced during the Cassette Beasts Showcase on June 28th, 2023. The showcase featured a short trailer and Bytten Studio's announcement for the multiplayer mode and its features.[1]

On December 11th, 2023, Bytten Studio released a multiplayer feature showcase, with announcement of the multiplayer's planned release in Q1 2024 and updates about the game mode's features.[2]

During the Cassette Beasts 2024 Showcase on March 25th, 2024, multiplayer was announced to be released on May 20th, 2024 with an announcement trailer.[3] A beta of the multiplayer mode was available on Steam on the same day.[4]

Features

This section is incomplete. Feel free to add the missing information by editing it.

Raids

When interacting with a Rogue Fusion, a menu appears, displaying the fusion's name, level, and type. While in a multiplayer session, the player can invite another player in the session to battle the fusion as a raid; if the invited player is of a higher level, their level will be temporarily lowered to match the other's level.

Both players will team up to fight the Rogue Fusion; the invited player will replace the partner's slot and will have access to their own set of tapes, but both players cannot switch into tapes that are on their partner slot. Fusion and the use of items are also disabled. Recording any tape in a raid will result in both players getting the tape after victory.

If one side has finished choosing their move, a 60 second timer will count down to wait for the other player to select their moves. If this timer expires, characters who were unable to pick a move will not perform any action in that round.

Winning in a raid rewards Cyber Material instead of Fused Material. If there were any tapes recorded during the raid, they will be given after the raid, with the generated stickers being identical for both players.

Trading

Players can trade tapes with other players, and doing so will force the game to save after a successful trade. To initiate a trade, one player will have to offer a tape for trade. The other player can either offer a tape in exchange or decline the offer. To complete the trade, the initiating player will have to accept the other player's offered tape. During the trading process, players can inspect the offered tapes to see the stickers attached to them. Tapes currently in the player and partner slot in the party cannot be traded away.

For saves with Custom Game enabled, it is still possible to trade with other saves if Randomised Monsters and Randomised Moves are enabled. However, if Randomised Types are enabled, those saves can only trade with other saves who have the same random seed and settings.

Non-monster tapes, such as Nowhere Peasant, cannot be traded away; attempting do so will result in an error before the trade goes through.

Battle

Players can battle each other, with the option to specify additional rules for the match. The player who sends the battle invite, or the host, affects the location of the battle, which affects the background and the monster pool for Call For Help or Summon Tulpa. As of version 1.6.2, the host is favored when it comes to resolution of speed ties, but this is planned to change in a future update[5].

The player's base stats are temporarily reset to default during battle. If one side has finished choosing their move, a 60 second timer will count down to wait for the other player to finish selecting their moves. If this timer expired, characters who were unable to pick a move will not perform any action in that round.

Level

This temporarily sets all characters' levels to either level 20, 50, 100, or 200. Setting it to Unrestricted results in the current levels being used instead.

Fusion

There are three settings for fusion: Disabled, Enabled, and Enabled + Fusion Power. These temporarily set both partner's Relationship level to 0, 1, or 2 respectively. If fusion is enabled, all fusion-related mods purchased from Wilma are disabled during the battle.

If a non-monster tape, such as Nowhere Peasant, is in either player's party, accepting the battle invite will result in an error.

Sticker Attributes

If this setting is disabled, the attributes in the tapes are temporarily removed. If the tape has more slots than normal due to the +1 extra slot attribute, any stickers beyond the normal slot amount will be ignored. As of version 1.6.2, stickers with the Compatible with any tape attribute are not ignored, but this will be fixed in a future update[5].

Duplicate Stickers

If this setting is disabled, duplicate stickers in a tape will be temporarily removed, leaving behind only one instance of the sticker.
