Sunny/Dialogue

From Cassette Beasts

These are Sunny's dialogues.

Relationship Level Scenes

Relationship Level 1

  • Sunny: I think... knowing that this... body... was someone else even before I was a Landkeeper...
  • Sunny: It doesn't make me feel any different. I want to continue learning what it means to be me, as I am now.
  • Sunny: I'm sure that "other me" would understand.
  • Sunny: Please, <player>, show me things. New things! There's so much to see! I know you intend to leave New Wirral, but...
  • Sunny: I wanna have fun, OK?

Relationship Level 2

  • Sunny: OK, <player>. Tell me something. Something about your world.

(Choice between "Huh?" and "My world?")

  • Sunny: Yeah! Your world is old, right...? New Wirral is young. I was told Harbourtown has only existed for a few generations...
  • Sunny: Please, tell me about the history of your world!

"You give Sunny a brief rundown on the history of Earth. You skip a lot of the details, but that's OK."

  • Sunny: That's... a lot to take in.
  • Sunny: When I think about this island, and where I came from... from the person I once was on another world, to being a Landkeeper, to finding you here...
  • Sunny: I can almost see the thread of history that led to me being me, here, now.
  • Sunny: Does that make sense? Do you... see the threads of your world's history that lead you to be who you are now?

(Choice between "Yeah?" and "Not really!")

If chosen "Yeah?":
  • Sunny: OK! I'm glad! I wasn't sure if it was a silly question.
If chosen "Not really!":
  • Sunny: Don't worry about it... it was a silly question anyway!
  • Sunny: I am still learning what it means to be oneself. Some part of that lies in our history, but only so much...
  • Sunny: I wonder about the human I once was... the woman who lived in my body first... I wonder how her history shaped her...
  • Sunny: Maybe I am asking the wrong questions... Maybe I need to ask you more about the present, not the past!

(Choice between "That sounds like a plan!" and "I guess so!")

  • Sunny: OK, I'll try and think of some better questions for you for next time!

Relationship Level 3

  • Sunny: Hey <player>...
  • Sunny: There are a lot of people on your world... aren't there? I mean... a lot more than here on this island.
  • Sunny: You must meet more people than you could even get to know!

(Choice between "Yeah, I guess so!" and "Yep, that's right!")

  • Sunny: Don't you feel sad about that? That there's friendships you might miss out on...?
  • Sunny: Though... I suppose they might not really end up as friends. Not all people can connect with each other...

(Choice between "Yep." and "That's an understatement.")

  • Sunny: Don't worry, I do understand that much. The other Landkeepers and I... are not friends.
  • Sunny: The roles given to them are so rigid... so impossible to change, that they can't imagine life any other way...
  • Sunny: Maybe me choosing to be "Sunny" instead of a "Landkeeper" is an insult to them.
  • Sunny: But knowing that people might not connect with you, or even despise you... this isn't enough to stop me reaching out to others.
  • Sunny: People are interesting to me! It's fun to talk to them, I think...

(Choice between "I agree!" and "That's a good outlook!")

  • Sunny: Heh heh.

Relationship Level 4

  • Sunny: Being hungry is pretty funny, isn't it...?

(Choice between "Is it...?" and "Being hungry is no laughing matter!")

  • Sunny: Is that such a strange statement?
  • Sunny: It's a feeling we have that changes our behaviour, even if we don't want it to...
  • Sunny: The things we desire in our bodies overrule us, pushing us to make decisions...

(Choice between "I guess that's true." and "Do you have many of these bodily desires?")

If chosen "I guess that's true.":
  • Sunny: See? It wasn't a strange statement after all!
  • Sunny: Some food makes me feel this way more than others. I guess that's "preference"...
  • Sunny: I bet your world has a lot of really good food that isn't on New Wirral, <player>!

(Choice between "Yep." and "Let me tell you about 'restaurants'.")

  • Sunny: Please... tell me about these foods. I want to know about them, OK?
If chosen "Do you have many of these bodily desires?":
  • Sunny: You- Buh- I'm not... I'm talking about food!
  • Sunny: A lot of human desires are... interesting, but food is easier to talk about...

"The conversation awkwardly trailed off after that."

Relationship Level 5

  • Sunny: Hey, <player>.
  • Sunny: There's something I'm curious about... People's homes. They are reflections of them, I'm told.
  • Sunny: Can you show me your home...?

(Choice between "Sure!" and "Not now.")

If chosen "Sure!":
  • Sunny: OK! Let's go...

At home, the player sits on their bed while Sunny looks up at them.

  • Sunny: ...
  • Sunny: I've been thinking so much on what it means to be me, and to be a person...
  • Sunny: And I think I understand now.
  • Sunny: What makes people... is other people.
  • Sunny: If I didn't have you in my life, and Kayleigh, and Eugene, I wouldn't BE Sunny...
  • Sunny: After all, you were the ones to give me that name. The first gift I ever received - and I'll treasure it forever.
  • Sunny: It feels like so long since then... I feel so differently about everything now.
  • Sunny: Even you, <player>. At first, I saw you as a stranger, someone I feared, or didn't trust. But now, I see you as...

(Choice between "As a friend?" and "As something more...?")

If chosen "As a friend?":
  • Sunny: Of course! We've traveled together... fought monsters together... even fused together...
  • Sunny: Those connections with one another? This is what it means to live. To be human, I think...
  • Sunny: One day I know you'll move on from this place... but those connections will always be there between us. Making us who we are.
  • Sunny: At least, that's what I think.
If chosen "As something more...?":
  • Sunny: Uh...
  • Sunny: Do you mean that how I think you mean it...?

(Choice between "I mean we're close friends!" and "I mean I have feelings for you.") Choosing "I mean we're close friends!" plays the previous "As a friend?" dialogue.

If chosen "I mean I have feelings for you.":
  • Sunny: So it's... not just me.
  • Sunny: If I am honest, I've had some... complicated feelings inside me for some time.
  • Sunny: It's so hard for me to know what's normal, and what's not...
  • Sunny: But if you feel the same, then I'll try to be direct:
  • Sunny: I want to be close to you, very close to you, right now... if that's OK...?
If chosen "Not now.":
  • Sunny: OK. Another time...

Romance

  • Sunny: You look like you have something you want to say, <player>, I think...?

(Choice between "I want us to be together." and "Nothing in particular.")

If chosen "I want us to be together.":
  • Sunny: I...
  • Sunny: I think I understand what it is you're asking.
  • Sunny: It's not just about being close to each other physically, it's something more...
  • Sunny: A validation of the connection between us, as people...

(Choice between "Yeah." and "That's one way to put it.")

  • Sunny: Of course I want that... I want nothing more...
  • Sunny: But... we can still be close physically too, right...?
  • Sunny: Because when I see you, there are a lot of feelings I have. I want to be physically close to you, and also want to be connected to you, connected to your heart...
  • Sunny: These feelings all blend into one and I can't tell where they begin or end. It makes me feel like I don't understand myself as much as I want to...
  • Sunny: I need to be close to you, I think.
  • Sunny: I need to feel your hands on mine, a-and other things like that, too!
  • Sunny: So... yes. I want to be with you. Until you go.
  • Sunny: I know you have to go home eventually... but this connection will always be there between us. Making us who we are.
If chosen "Nothing in particular.":
  • Sunny: OK, <player>...

Campsite and Gramophone Café Conversations

  • Sunny: Does your world have more clothes than this one, <player>?

(Choice between "Yes." and "Quite a lot more...")

  • Sunny: It does?!
  • Sunny: Though... I only just discovered how I like to dress... Maybe I'm not ready for a new look...

  • Sunny: The "Archangels", like Mammon...
  • Sunny: They are made by people, I understand...?

(Choice between "Sort of..." and "Something like that.")

  • Sunny: I see...
  • Sunny: An Archangel seems so much stronger than a human... but that's the wrong way to look at it, I think...
  • Sunny: When I see people in Harbourtown working together, they are like one whole...
  • Sunny: An Archangel might be strong, but I can't imagine any Archangel is a match for all people, together!

  • Sunny: The ocean surrounding New Wirral...
  • Sunny: I wonder if you built a ship and sailed away from here you'd find more islands like it...
  • Sunny: Maybe I'll do that one day, when my heart yearns to see new lands!

  • Sunny: What are the monsters on your world like, <player>?

(Choice between "There aren't any." and "I think that's just a New Wirral thing.")

  • Sunny: Whuh...? Really?
  • Sunny: I didn't realize... I guess that explains a lot...

  • Sunny: It is a strange thing to think that many people on this island are lost here...
  • Sunny: After all, I'm not lost here. Here is where I found myself...
  • Sunny: New Wirral... a place where you can be forever lost, and forever found...

  • Sunny: Something I've been thinking about...
  • Sunny: If someone else lived in my body once, did I inherit their likes and dislikes also...?
  • Sunny: Or are those my own? I wonder...

  • Sunny: People seem to enjoy eating food a lot, don't they...?

(Choice between "What do you mean?" and "Huh?")

  • Sunny: You seem to do it at least once a day!

(Choice between "It's necessary!" and "You have to eat to stay alive!")

  • Sunny: Do you...? That's strange...
  • Sunny: I seem to be OK if I don't eat anything at all!
  • Sunny: Maybe I am less like other people than I thought...

  • Sunny: A fresh start...
  • Sunny: That's what Kayleigh said everyone on New Wirral gets, right...? Do you think EVERYONE deserves a second chance at life...?

(Choice between "I think so." and "Not everyone.")

If chosen "I think so.":
  • Sunny: So do I, I think...
If chosen "Not everyone.":
  • Sunny: To be undeserving of a second chance in life... I don't think I want to meet someone like that...

  • Sunny: The past me... the person who lived in my body once...
  • Sunny: She seemed so unhappy... It seems so sad to live an unhappy life and not be able to change it...
  • Sunny: Promise me, <player>, to always live as happily as you can...
  • Sunny: Don't let your world change you, or make you into someone you're not... OK?

  • Sunny: So if I understand correctly... this island was made and maintained by an Archangel that goes by the name "Mer-Line"... correct?

(Choice between "It seems that way." and "I think that's right!")

  • Sunny: This Archangel must have had a reason to do all this...
  • Sunny: But also... maybe their reasons are beyond our understanding?
  • Sunny: Either way, I don't think it's something we should worry about! Whatever the future may hold, we'll be ready for it...

Gramophone Café

  • Sunny: Tell me, <player>... does your world also have a café...?

(Choice between "There are a lot, actually." and "Nope - this is the only one I've ever seen!")

If chosen "There are a lot, actually.":
  • Sunny: Many cafés...? That's difficult for me to imagine...
If chosen "Nope - this is the only one I've ever seen!":
  • Sunny: Wow! This place must be very exciting for you, then...!

Campsite

  • Sunny: Is the sky as beautiful on your world as it is here, <player>?

(Choice between "It's... very different." and "It doesn't quite look the same.")

  • Sunny: In the day, the sun glides across the sky, together with the pitch-black moon... At night, that same moon consumes the swirling lights that dance together...
  • Sunny: It's wonderful, don't you think...?

(Choice between "It's cool!" and "I find it kind of eerie.")

If chosen "It's cool!":
  • Sunny: Heh... I thought you'd agree. Very "cool"...
If chosen "I find it kind of eerie.":
  • Sunny: Heh... maybe it's quite different to what you're used to...

  • Sunny: When I feel the wind like this...
  • Sunny: I feel like... the woman whose body this was, she didn't get to feel the wind in her hair like this...
  • Sunny: Maybe I'm making up for lost time, in a way...

After romance

  • Sunny: I... like the way you look when I see you lit by the fire, <player>...
  • Sunny: The embers reflected in your eyes - it may sound silly, but I feel like I see a whole world in you...
  • Sunny: Maybe that's the world you came from... Like you've harboured a piece of it inside you, all this time, guiding you home...
  • Sunny: ...

Romancing Kayleigh

  • Sunny: You and Kayleigh... you have a sort of connection, don't you...?

(Choice between "Yeah!" and "I guess you could phrase it like that.")

  • Sunny: I thought so. It makes me happy to know two of my friends are so close...
  • Sunny: Whilst I do not share a bond with anyone like this, it would be nice...

Romancing Eugene

  • Sunny: You and Eugene are close, aren't you?

(Choice between "Yeah!" and "I guess you could phrase it like that.")

  • Sunny: I thought so. Eugene is sure of himself in many ways, and not so much in others... I think you are someone who would help bring out the best in him.
  • Sunny: The two of you are a good pair, I believe...

Character Interactions in Gramophone Café

Sunny and Kayleigh

  • Sunny: ...So you mean to say that, where you’re from, some people CHOOSE to live like Landkeepers…?
  • Kayleigh: Well I wouldn’t phrase it like that, exactly - it’s more that you need money to live, so an office job is a way to get money.
  • Sunny: So people choose to live in an office to survive…?
  • Kayleigh: Oh, they don’t live there - it’s just for the day! Think of it as a role you play in the daytime, before you come home and become yourself again.
  • Sunny: I see… did you have an “office job” before coming to New Wirral, Kayleigh…?
  • Kayleigh: Uh, I’m not qualified for that kind of work.

Sunny and Eugene

  • Sunny: ...It feels so long ago when we first met, Eugene…
  • Eugene: You mean when you first walked into this café? Yeah, I guess it’s been a little bit since then.
  • Sunny: No, I mean when I was a Landkeeper and first came into Harbourtown. You confronted me and my colleague and told us to leave, remember…?
  • Eugene: Wait, that was YOU? Sunny, I never realised…
  • Sunny: It’s OK, Eugene. We weren’t friends when we first met, but we are now… That’s better, don’t you think…?
  • Eugene: A big improvement, I agree.

Sunny and Meredith

  • Sunny: ...No, I never had to “drink blood” as a Landkeeper...
  • Meredith: So you’re not, like, a vampire. But are you sure you aren’t maybe a little bit undead? You look pretty pale.
  • Sunny: ”Undead”? I’m not familiar with the word... Is it bad..?
  • Meredith: I guess not. I’m just curious about you.
  • Sunny: You’re... curious about me...?
  • Meredith: Don’t take it the wrong way! You’re like, a living dead girl. Or maybe you’re not. Either way, it’s cool.
  • Sunny: So you’re saying you don’t quite understand me, and that interests you...?
  • Meredith: I... guess?

Sunny and Felix

  • Sunny: ...You want to draw me...?
  • Felix: Yeah! Your story is pretty inspiring, after all. You escaped your previous life as a corporate drone to be your own person. I could totally base a character on you for the story I’m writing.
  • Sunny: I... that’s very kind of you. I would be honoured for you to draw me, Felix...
  • Sunny: Though I must request that my clothes stay on for the drawing process.
  • Felix: Don’t worry, I’m not that kind of artist.

Sunny and Viola

  • Sunny: ...Do you have fond memories from your times travelling, Viola...?
  • Viola: ...Fond memories? The finest! The wind in my hair one night, and the warm bed of a tavern the following moon. Upon one night I may be found dining with friends of my father; the next I may be performing poetry in fair Verona.
  • Sunny: ”Fair Verona”... that sounds like a nice place...
  • Viola: It... may be so, yet I must confess: I happened to have stolen the heart of a maiden of high standing in Verona and caused a local feud, the likes of which escalated most devilishly. I do not intend to return.
  • Sunny: ...You do have a lot of stories, it seems!

Sunny and Barkley

  • Sunny: ...I guess you’re a “dog”, is that right...?
  • Barkley: Arf!
  • Sunny: You are the first “dog” I’ve met. I would like to meet more, if given the chance...

Sunny and Frankie

  • Frankie: ...So even though I didn’t know New Wirral existed before coming here, in some way I’ve been preparing for this kind of thing happening to me my whole life!
  • Sunny: I see... because you read many fantasy stories… and write your own, if I am understanding right...?
  • Frankie: Yes! Though the specific details with cassette tapes is a new twist, people love stories about friendships between monsters and humans - especially if there’s romance, too.
  • Sunny: They do...? Is that why you are excited to be here - to be romanced by a monster?
  • Frankie: What, m-me? No, I’m strictly an observer.

Here Comes The Sun

(Conversing with Helia)

  • Sunny: Are you... responsible for the rogue fusions...?

  • Sunny: The problem is... your "wonderful beasts" are putting people in danger...

(After being told about The Mer-Line)

  • Sunny: The Mer-Line?! This seems bad, <player>...

(After meeting The Mer-Line)

  • Sunny: I don't understand - what does the Mer-Line need you for? Surely it is more powerful than any human... Strange...

Pier of the Unknown

Magikrab's Gauntlet

(When Sunny is on her own)

  • Sunny: I'm sorry, but I have to stop you right now.

(When Sunny is the first fighter in a pair)

  • Sunny: We need to move perfectly in sync if we are to win this...

(When Sunny is the second fighter in a pair)

  • Sunny: OK, I trust you...
