Pier of the Unknown is a DLC for Cassette Beasts. It was released on October 4th, 2023.[1]

Pre-Release

Pier of the Unknown was first announced during the Cassette Beasts Showcase on June 28th, 2023. The showcase featured a short trailer for the DLC which revealed the name of Brightside Pier and the silhouette of Gwen.[2]

A short teaser for Pier of the Unknown was shown during the Monster Taming Direct streamed on September 4th, 2023. It showed off the silhouette Charlequin‎.[3]

The second trailer for Pier of the Unknown was released on September 12th, 2023 alongside a post on the Cassette Beasts Steam page. The trailer showed some gameplay in Brightside Pier, showed concept art for Gwen, Charlequin‎, and Littlered, and announced that the DLC would be released on October 4th, 2023.[4] The post additionally mentioned that the DLC will add 12 new monsters that will only be found in Brightside Pier as well as 5 new character costume options.[1]

Unlock

To access to DLC, speak to Clémence following the first meeting with the Triangle Man (after beating four Archangels). From there, a rowboat will appear to take you to the titular Pier.

Summary

Following your first encounter with Aleph, Clémence informs you of a strange sighting of a rowboat coming onto New Habourtown's shore. Investigating it takes you and your partner to Brightside Pier, a run down amusement park run by a clown named Gwen. She explains that the park's three infernal engines have run amok and tasks the you the deactivate them. Going through each of pier's the three attractions; The Witch House, Funworld, and Cosmic Zone, you discover that the "engines" are in fact Archangels, though Gwen seems to have no clue what that means.

After successfully defeating all of them, talking with Gwen again reveals herself to be the Archangel "Gwenivar", having been apart of the Red King's court before splitting off, and the Infernal Engines were made from humans she lured into her pier so she could have more "friends". When the you tell her to stop experimenting on humans, she reveals her true form and fights you. After defeating her, she relents in trying to make more Archangels, but asks you and your partner visit the pier from time to time. It ends with Gwen reaffirming her love for humans, stating no matter the world, mankind will always create monsters.
