Romance

  • Eugene: You’re pretty quiet. Is everything all good, buddy?

(Choice between "I want us to be together." and "Nothing in particular!")

If chosen "I want us to be together.":
  • Eugene: I… Uh...
  • Eugene: I know. I mean, I do too. I’m just nervous.
  • Eugene: I think both of us help each other become our best selves.
  • Eugene: Together we’re greater than the sum of our parts. It’s like when we fuse!
  • Eugene: That said… we might have to break up if we find our way off the island.
  • Eugene: You mean a lot to me, but I have my old life that’s waiting for me to return back to. And you do too.
  • Eugene: But while we’re together, let’s have fun!
  • Eugene: There are people to help, and giant monsters to punch really hard in the face.
  • Eugene: The same as always – Harbourtown’s unstoppable power couple!
  • Eugene: Though maybe we can pause the adventuring, at least for tonight...
If chosen "Nothing in particular!":
  • Eugene: Gotcha.

Campsite and Gramophone Café Conversations

Partner Interactions in Gramophone Café

Eugene and Kayleigh

  • Kayleigh: ...I don’t understand you, Eugene. You love all this “save the community” stuff, but you don’t want to join the rangers with me?
  • Eugene: It’s nothing personal. I’m just a loose cannon, is all. A lone wolf. I can’t abide by an organisation that might hold me back.
  • Kayleigh: I don’t think that’s it. I think you’re scared that you might fail the entry test!
  • Eugene: Th-that’s not it at all!

Eugene and Meredith

  • Meredith: ...I did have some engineering work to do back at the shop, but I might just swerve it for now.
  • Eugene: Yeah! You gotta take a break sometimes, buddy!
  • Eugene: …. Wait, what did you say just now?
  • Meredith: Uhh, I said I had some engineering work to do?
  • Eugene: What did you say after that…?
  • Meredith: ...I was gonna swerve it?
  • Eugene: Is that a phrase? To “swerve” something?
  • Meredith: Oh, I mean, yeah. Like if you’re going to skip out on doing something or going somewhere, that’s you “swerving” it.
  • Eugene: OK, gotcha. I shall embrace your unusual slang with an open mind.
  • Meredith: I think I’m gonna swerve this whole conversation.

Eugene and Felix

  • Eugene: ...So you quit your job, because your bosses kept screwing you around?
  • Felix: Pretty much. It’s more than that, though. If I went to work somewhere else, I’d just have another boss giving me orders.
  • Felix: The only way to break the cycle is to work for myself. No more bosses.
  • Eugene: Yeah! That’s the spirit! No more bosses – live on your own terms, man!
  • Felix: Though my career plans have hit a roadblock recently. I think it happened after I fell through time and space and ended up living on monster island.
  • Eugene: It happens to the best of us!

Eugene and Viola

  • Eugene: ...So you washed up on New Wirral after being shipwrecked in a storm, [pause]right?
  • Viola: Yes, that is correct.
  • Eugene: And you’re looking for your twin brother, Sebastian…
  • Eugene: This just sounds really familiar and I don’t know why. Are you famous? Have we met before?
  • Viola: I can assure you that I am no-one of notoriety or interest. As for whether we’ve met? I’m sure I would remember someone as spirited as thee, Eugene.
  • Eugene: I guess so. Still, your story seems so familiar…

Eugene and Barkley

  • Eugene: ...So you’re a dog.
  • Barkley: Arf!
  • Eugene: …But you can use a cassette player to transform into monsters like the rest of us.
  • Barkley: Arf arf!
  • Eugene: Are you some kind of… magical talking dog? From another world?
  • Barkley: Arf!
  • Eugene: Hmm. I guess not.
